Nylon frame fasteners, often referred to as nylon frame fixings or frame anchor fasteners, represent a crucial and versatile category of construction hardware. They are primarily engineered to provide a secure and reliable method for attaching elements like window frames, door frames, façade systems, battens, and wall plates to masonry substrates, including concrete, solid brick, blockwork, and stone. Unlike standard wall plugs or light-duty fixings, these fasteners are specifically designed for demanding applications that require a robust and long-lasting connection.
Components
Nylon Plug: This is the sleeve inserted into the pre-drilled hole in the masonry. It is made from high-quality nylon (often Polyamide PA6) which provides strength, flexibility, and key features like electrical and thermal insulation. The nylon plug often incorporates anti-rotation wings or a heavily ribbed surface to prevent spinning during installation and enhance pull-out strength in the base material. The design frequently features an elongated expansion zone to maximize grip, especially in materials with internal voids like hollow blocks or aerated concrete.
Metal Screw/Nail: This element is driven or screwed into the nylon plug. The screw is typically high-tensile and features a specialized thread profile that forces the nylon plug to expand within the drilled hole. The expansion creates a strong, non-slip friction lock against the substrate walls, thus securing the fixture. Different head styles, such as countersunk (CSK) or hexagonal heads, are available to suit the fixture being attached.
Installation Technique
The installation process is straightforward, ensuring efficiency on the job site:
Drill: A hole is drilled through the fixture (e.g., the window frame) and into the base material to the required depth. The diameter of the drill bit must match the diameter of the nylon plug.
Clean: Debris and dust are cleared from the hole to ensure maximum contact between the plug and the substrate.
Insert: The pre-assembled nylon plug and screw are inserted through the fixture and into the drilled hole until the collar sits flush against the fixture.
